While visiting Eleuthera in the fall to hand out books to the 1st graders, friends and I asked Primary School teachers what supplies they could use. A lot of us like to give back to the island by bringing items that might be hard to get due to budget constraints or availability. Most of the teachers had similar suggestions, so I will list them all together.
Pencils
Crayons
Colored pencils
Erasers
Glue
Construction paper
Scissors (children’s, adult’s)
Modeling clay
Dry erase markers/erasers
Glitter
Several teachers mentioned toner which is difficult without knowing the exact cartridge needed. But I’m sure copy paper would also be appreciated.
So, if you want to give back or pay forward, grab some supplies (especially during the summer sales), stick them in an inexpensive backpack, and drop them off at a school as you go by. And don’t forget the out of the way schools in The Bluff, Deep Creek and Wemyss Bight.
Let’s all give back to the island that gives so much to us.
