Hi -
I am planning a trip to Eleuthera in early May 2021. I previously visited in 2018 and really enjoyed the Lighthouse Point at the southern tip of the island. Since my last visit, I have heard that Disney bought the property for a new cruise destination and that they are planning to develop the area into a resort.
Does anyone have any updates on the progress of the project? Has the construction begun? Are tourists and locals still able to access the area or has Disney fenced it all off?
I would love to visit one more time while it's still in a natural state.
Thank you for any info!

As of now it is still open and accessible. Disney has started some surveillance and assessment work, but the road is still open and passable. With all that's going on I think it's a safe bet that nothing will have changed by May, but I'll post again if I hear differently.

Oh no!! I just saw this. We will be there in December. Was soooo looking forward to seeing Lighthouse Pt in it's natural state. I'm looking on internet now. Looks like Disney already bought it. Has construction began? You all heard anything?

No news yet on any changes to LH Point and the beaches other than Disney has put a garbage pail there that everyone uses, but noone empties. Real progress. No construction has started. No roads have been blocked off. Some survey work has been done, but that's it for now. Never Miss a Beach!

Hi Robert,
Yes, there has been development. From what I've been told from people on the ground is that the access road to the point has been closed off permanently. However, where they've blocked off the road they've cleared an access path to the beach and you can walk to the point from there. I've been told it's 2 miles each way, but cannot personally verify that.
Best,
Bret
