Hi Folks, The Eleuthera Rentals by Owner FB page has started growing by leaps and bounds. We now have over 380 subscribed members who asked to join the forum and 1,500 followers. We are adding new people every day, but we need more houses. www.facebook.com/groups/eleutheradirect/Once enough properties list for free on the site I will look to use one of my domains to better organize them so that people can rent your property directly. I own quite a few choice domains for Eleuthera rental properties and just need enough of a community to put it/them to use. Best, Bret Never Miss a Beach!

Hi Bret -- I joined the facebook group and am looking to book a place but the site is very confusing to me... how do I find out what properties people are wanting to rent? Also am I better off spending 4 days in mid/southern Eleuthera and staying the rest of my week in north? I can only fly into ELH.... Thanks! Leah

Hi Leah,
On the FB page you need to put in what you want and if someone has something that matches they will respond.
I would recommend spending your time in the middle of the island. That way you can venture both north or south. I don't think there's much of an advantage to staying north unless you want to be close to the ELH airport.

Wow thanks for the quick response Bret! I was about to write you on FB! I will post something in the discussion section. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings (I reached out to a few people I saw in the members list to start) but I like to evaluate lots of options. I was thinking mid-island as well and thank you for giving me something to focus on. I'm a bit overwhelmed starting from scratch after my Abaco plans were destroyed. Sad for the Abaconians right now. Thank you for your kindness!

First timers to Eleuthera generally prefer the Governor's Harbour & North Palmetto Point areas. There are a couple of communities a wee bit south of there - Double Bay and Ten Bay - that are also popular for visitors who want to be close enough but not too close.
If you have other questions please feel free to reach out. Lots of helpful people on this forum and the FB page.

Hi Bret,
My husband & I are seriously thinking of visiting Eleuthera some time just after Thanksgiving for a week. I'm concerned about the condition of the island and if it is now a bit crowded from refugees. Can you please let me know what's going on there? We can wait until next year if you think we should give it a bit more time. Thank yo so much.

Hi Kay,
I'm not Bret but I am on the island right now, living in Tarpum Bay (up south). Folks in this settlement say that there are a *lot* of people from Abaco living in Tarpum Bay. I have not seen any evidence... My thought is that Bahamians don't spend a lot of time on beaches (except on public holidays) as they are busy living their lives; people from Abaco/Grand Bahama must be doubly busy figuring out what's next for them. Also, I don't know if they would be eating out in restaurants much. So, my impression is that the island doesn't seem crowded from refugees. It's a big island, plenty of room for refugees, visitors, and residents.
Best wishes for your vacation planning!

Let me say that I am appalled and saddened by your reference to people who have been displaced by a storm as refugees. They are not refugees. They are survivors, Bahamians, and people who are certainly entitled to be on whatever island they choose to be on in THEIR country. They deserve compassion and assistance, not intolerance.
Don't pick a different time to come. Pick a different country. This one is too crowded for you.
