Here's a picture of the view looking south from the Ellis house. Not the best shot perhaps, but it's what I have at the moment. Mr. Cookie found this on the web when searching the architect's name: www.atelierandrews.com/pdf/ellis_house.pdfThanks again Leicina. We're grateful that you took the time to respond with the info on the Ellis House.

When we were at John Millers (Sound) (March 11) we saw what appeared to be a very old seaside cemetery. Mrs. Claudia Sands of The Rock Sound Market said that it is a cemetery; she also said it was built by slaves. The walls surrounding the area are about 3 feet thick and appear to be in remarkable shape. I wonder if this area continues to be tended... 11 years visiting Eleuthera and we're still finding new beaches and areas to explore.

March 13, 2019. Last day before leaving the island. We thought we might sneak in a couple of hours at Double Bay. Winds at 20-25 mph from the NE... I thought that maybe the rocks at the southern edge would break the wind enough to sit comfortably, but that was wishful thinking. We moved on to Ten Bay, where it was PACKED and very pleasant. Again, enough room for everyone there to have a slice of paradise.
March 14, 2019. Traveling home to NY. Interestingly, the Bahamasair flight left much earlier than our PineappleAir flight. When we arrived at the baggage carousel in Nassau, the Bahamasair passengers were still waiting for their baggage. Our bags came out almost as soon as we got to the carousel. Weird, but I'll take it. Onward to Dunkin' Donuts, and now waiting for our flight out of Nassau. ANOTHER FANTASTIC STAY IN ELEUTHERA.

Missed you again Cookie! One of these years...
I can't believe that's what the cemetery looks like at JM Sound. Those rocks are where the headstones used to be. Some storm must have claimed them since I was last there in 2014.
Never Miss a Beach!

Bret, enjoy the island!
I forgot to mention that some time around March 1, Mr. Cookie and friends were trying to access the Atlantic beach on the south side of Half Sound, but a huge earth moving machine was blocking the way. One of the worker fellas said that they work for the "Hotel Corporation." This fella also said that if Mr. Cookie waited a day, the road would be cleared.
{We've come to understand that the Hotel Corporation is some kind of government agency that clears roads, etc., from time to time. (PLEASE someone give more and/or better info about the "Hotel Corporation."). We've also noticed that there are many plastic tags placed in trees all along Half Sound, and also a couple on Winding Bay, as if marking lots...}
We went back to the access road on March 8, and indeed, quite a wide "road" was cleared. What used to be a steep sandy drop (and therefore not accessible in our 2WD small SUV) was now smoothed out a bit. HOWEVER, there are several places where the sand looks quite deep. We didn't brave the deep sand in the car, but we did get out and walk a ways. Some friends, however, made the trip all the way out to the point in a rather small sedan. Another friend (a Tarpum Bay guy) said he had to pull out a car from getting stuck in there. It's awfully, terribly tempting to give that road a try! Has anyone been out there recently???

I was there in October. That slice of road is really scary especially going up. Once you get past that part it's just narrow. Getting back up you have to get a running start and then just gun it. It's worth the ride for the snorkel, though. Best ocean snorkel on the island. Never Miss a Beach!

No longer narrow!!! Just deep sand... I'll not tell Mr. Cookie that you are encouraging this road & snorkel!! I'm no wimp to driving in snow, but sand still seems tricky. And the thought of walking back to Tarpum Bay to ask someone to tow us out... We ALREADY give the locals enough to chuckle about!

That was my biggest concern. I wasn't relaxed at all when snorkeling because all I was thinking about was driving back out. I've made it twice now so it can be done, but it's heart stopping. It's still the best ocean snorkel on Eleuthera!
