First and foremost I feel I have to start this with Condolences to the Family & Loved ones of Mr. Wayne W. who was an active advocate of the welfare and well being of the Potcakes on island. He was the first person I met on my very first visit to this out island who spoke for the island pups. A wonderful & welcoming man who will be missed by many and taught me much about island Potcakes. Dianne, I/we are so very sorry for your loss of this wonderful, caring and giving man.
I have debated with myself for this past month whether I wanted to do a TR or not. I decided to do so for reasons of my own which I will keep to myself but, I'm sure ya'll will figure that out. This is going to be day by day as that's how I made my notes. It will be a work in progress.
Nov. 5th was our travel day to CLT. We live in SC about 2 hours from CLT. Not wanting to travel in the dark in the wee hours of the morning to catch a early flight and be stressed we opted to go a day early and stay at Wingate I-85. They have a sleep-fly-park option that we like. All was well until about 9:00 PM (after eat got something to eat and settle in) when some A$$Hole
decided to smoke in their room thus triggering the smoke alarm and sending all outside, took about an hour for the all clear. I'm talking fire department, people milling around and totally awake now. Not happy and sleep deprived. Up at 5:00AM for a 7:35 AM flight Oh well, sh!t happens. Nice hotel/motel, not their
fault and a nice place to stay. Clean, very nice staff who will help in whatever way they can, no issues with them at all. Flights were fine: CLT-MIA-ELH with AA & AE. Unusual BS but, enough of that. Landed at ELH at just a bit early and did the usual check in. Got our vehicle from Steve Neymore (thru our property rental owner) (Beside the Pointe in Savannah Sound) and all was well with that. ( I had worn my swim shorts & top) and stripped down from (long lightweight pants & jean shirt in the Parking lot) while the OH took care of the car rental. Got the sandals on & I was good to go. Went to Jimmy's got a case of Sands Light with a couple of cold one's and were good to go. Took our time to Savannah Sound and just drank in the sights, smells & appreciation of being able to be on this beautiful out island.

Not meaning to hijack DebC's trip report (wanta hear the whole thing!), but passing on info for some who knew Wayne. Mr. Wampler (spelled correctly) passed away a few nights ago. His family was with him when he went and some of us were fortunate enough to be able to say goodbye to him before he passed. He had been ill since he left the island in May.

Before getting to Beside the Pointe we stopped at Gaulding Cay & took a short look around. Good thing we did as we never got that way again until our
departure, first time to this beach, it's lovely but, we felt like we were intruding. Had no problem but
there is a house very close to the beach access and the owners were there so moved on. Went to Island Farm & picked up the Quiche I had ordered.
Very easy process, just contacted them on Facebook. These were breakfast Quiche, very good & a nice quick
breakfast. Had a great visit with Keith &
& Sharon upon arrival and settled in. By this time we are starving, really wanted Queen of Tarts, no go, not open.
Really sad about this so, the closest we could think of was Fishbones. Some may not like this choice but, oh well.
Hungry wins out every time. Nice place, had a great chat, ordered lobster quesadillas for me & fish tacos for him.
Very good, hit the spot and so we went back to crash and recover from our long day of travel.

Hey Deb - I'm enjoying this installment type trip report. Thanks for taking the time to do it. Sounds like you might not have snorkeled at Gaulding... we have enjoyed that in the past. Does anyone know if the house there is new? But now that I think of it, maybe we have been at Twin Sisters (not Gaulding)... Wherever we were, there was not a house very close to the path down to the beach. Hope to read more about your adventure soon.

There are no houses at the public parking area at Gaulding Cay, but perhaps Deb went into one of the driveways. If you go straight you end up next to a house and if you go further down the road after you make the right turn you end up at houses, too. The only thing that is noticeable at the public area is the creek/stream or whatever it is just to the left of where you leave your car.

Hey Cookie, I'm sure like Bret said we were in a driveway, no we didn't snorkel. Beautiful house with a homemade metal fence which was gorgeous! Owner was out working in his shop/garage, music playing. Just took a look as we had never been before and moved along as we felt we were in the wrong place, just wanted a look see and paid attention to all the signs along the drive to be respectful. (That was a good hint we were not at the public access which is why I felt uncomfortable).
Thanks Bret, for helping to explain!

Ok, now on to Wednesday. Went to Island farm again to get some greens/veg. Really good selection, Greens (lettuce, dif. varieties, spinach & kale, Avocado,
Tomato, Lime & some sea salt. Need my veg./salad fix! Went to Bacchus Fine Foods for Genoa Salami, Smoked Salmon, Pastrami, Manchego, Gorgonzola & Kalamata Olives.
Very reasonable for what I got and needed my good imported fix of things I love to eat. To explain, I live in a relatively small southern area that doesn't
have these really good imported products so, I gorge! Also went to The Bakery in GHB for bread & pastries, "HE" didn't like the bread for sandwiches, (Ate it for breakfast toasted) way
to sweet for him for sandwiches, but he devoured the "sweet" pastries (picky about bread, grrr, I don't eat bread much) I liked it. Stopped at Island Farm on their bread day
(Thursday?) for more bread. Also went to Midway Cost Cutters for: toilet paper, paper towels, Clamato Juice (suck it up you guys, I like it and I'm not
Canadian),Grey Poupon mustard, Mayo, Coconut water, Juices, Yogurt, Pickles, sour cream, cream cheese, butter, and some tarts. SEE FOLKS, you can get
everything here! I do have some receipts if anyone is interested. May be the same or not on your visit but I will share if you ask. So that was Wednesday
and snack food is done! Also, to be honest, I really dislike going to multiple stores at home to get what I want. On Eleuthera it is just the way it is and , I love it.
Go figure!

Thursday: This day consisted of Tarpum Bay & Winding Bay. Just drove around doing whatever we wanted to do. Stopped at Shell Beach for me, gotta look for them
babies. Went to Seaside Breeze in Tarpum Bay for beers (really nice) and watched the "Conch Guy" make Conch Salad. Lot's of very friendly people and very good
conversations among all. I/we had a very good time here, walked the beach and used the "Shell Shades" they have set up. Took a drive over to Winding Bay and were
rewarded with turtles, that was a win! Before we left Seaside Breeze we asked about food. Next door is a small restaurant, I believe it's called Bayside, lovely
lady and we decided we would come back and order take-away. Well, we did, got Conch, Lobster, (both cracked) and Fish dinners with sides. Excellent food and
plenty of it. I highly recommend this,
our bellies were very happy!

Friday: This is a boring addition, sorry. We did a home day today but, I am so happy we did! Sat in the screened in porch, snacked, I read a book, he did whatever,
watched TV, walked the beach. Best part of the day was DOLPHINS in the bay. Watched them until they moved on. First time ever seeing them, precious! Talked
to Keith and he said they are usually around on a 2 week schedule. Just relaxed not going anywhere, perfect.
