First time visitors to Eleuthera, first time driving on the left. Flight is scheduled to arrive at GHB about 45 minutes before sunset and rental is on north-ish Double Bay. I'm concerned about driving in the dark before we have the opportunity to get oriented in the daylight.
Originally didn't plan to bring provisions, but now I'm considering a few basics for the first night and morning so that we don't waste daylight making stops between the airport and the rental. Will probably bring a checked bag anyway because we plan to donate school supplies.
Am I being wise or am I overthinking the provisions?
PS: Provisions would be coffee, instant oatmeal, dried packaged fruit, beer, wine, dry pasta, canned tomatoes, seasonings. My husband is a late in life culinary student and will easily make do with whatever we find when we eventually get to a store. No need for instant mashed taters. We will also dine out.

Not sure if this is an option with your rental, but you might want to consider asking if your rental car can be dropped off at the house and then take a taxi from the airport if you are concerned about driving at night on the left. Similarly, perhaps you can have the house stocked with the basic provisions you want. That can usually be arranged for a nominal fee.
You can always head out the first morning and pick up provisions in Savannah Sound. You have Midway Cost Cutters for groceries and Uncle John's for beer and wine. You can also by groceries in Palmetto Point or head 5 miles further north to Governor's for both groceries and adult beverages.

Thanks Bret. That is great advice for a less stressful travel day. I'll reach out to the rental car person and house manager. Planned on Midway Cost Cutters but didn't know about Uncle John's.

Uncle John's is also a small grocer, too. I know that he offers house stocking service. To get to Uncle John's you would go to the main intersection in Savannah Sound on Queen's Highway. This is easy to miss. Look for the lone gas pump on the south side of the intersection on the right hand side and the old highway bar on the northern side of the intersection on the left. Make a left at that intersection, then make every right you encounter until you reach Uncle John's. It will be on your right on a corner across from a white gazebo. It's also on the same road that leads to Fishbone Bar and Grill.

Could this also be an option? You would have to meet with & pay for your rental vehicle upon arrival, Yes?
For a nice tip maybe your rental car provider could be persuaded to drive you to your rental?
This is of course depending where he/she lives and how they would get home? If they live close to Double Bay they *may*
live somewhere close by.

Thanks for another possibility Debc. I'll let the rental person (Stanton) know our concern and see what he suggests. I vaguely recall reading that he also provides taxi service.
My trip isn't until late December. Seems a bit early to be contacting service providers about these details. But, I'm wondering if there's a seasonal lull that would make it preferable to contact them now?

Follow up... Da eats: In early October I sent an email to MidWay Cost Cutters (home owner gave me the addy) but I didn't get a reply. No worries, no hard feelings. We brought the items I listed in the first post and which were just fine for dinner and breakfast for two people. The morning after arrival we got out and about and found sandwich fixins, eggs, breakfast sausage, steak, potatoes, salad greens, chicken, bananas, squash and more that I can't remember. Da ride: After I confirmed taxi service/vehicle rental at the house, our flight ended up rescheduled for an earlier arrival, giving us a couple of hours before last light. However, when I notified Sunshine of the flight change, I decided to keep the taxi service for three reasons: 1) I had already committed to the service and didn't want to back out - someone might be counting on the $ 2) It would make for a less stressful travel day regardless of darkness 3) Our flight might be late (it was) By the time we collected our one checked bag, last light had slipped the horizon. No taxi, no record of it. It was also apparent that it couldn't be arranged. For our part, we thought "Why ask why?" We had directions and proceeded south on our own. It wasn't raining, mostly, but the road was wet in spots. Did I mention our night vision sucks? If you were at the Cupids Cay fish fry on 12/28 enjoying a chuckle at the tourists doing a three point turn in the parking area, you're welcome. At least dancing in the street had not yet begun. We found the dog leg back on Queens Hwy and carried on. To make sure we hadn't missed the turn to Double Bay, we stopped at an old timey gas station that had no apparent name. Not only were we reassured that we hadn't missed the turn, we were given some landmarks that weren't on the directions I had with me, plus the "you know you've gone too far if..." Grateful for the helpful info, we bought two Cokes and some snacks. The additional directions were just what we needed and we got to the rental without further delay. For the next trip I think we'll depart a day earlier, stay over near MIA, FLL or NAS and take a morning flight to GHB.

Double Bay? Look for the high voltage sign, of course, and the two cement stanchions!!
Glad you made it ok.

Thanks Bret! We had those landmarks but thought we might have missed them between acclimating to driving on the left and pothole spotting.
After our trip, I read (maybe on TA??) that I could have done more with Google Maps, even without wireless. SMUTH! I really have to up my tech.
